Chinese Shar-Pei / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) Dog

Ruger the Dog needs a home

Ruger came to Best Friends from a shelter in Utah after he was found abandoned. Though he was born in 2004, has arthritis and takes a joint supplement and several medications, he still has pep in his step and loves walks, outside time in his yard and car rides. He's also very friendly with people and loves to be petted. While Ruger prefers to be the only dog in the home, he can walk calmly past other dogs and has even had some walks and play dates with other dogs at the Sanctuary. He's also been working on overcoming resource guarding. Although he has improved, he'll need to continue his training plan in his future home.Ruger has a medical condition called pica, which sometimes causes him to eat non-food items. This needs to be carefully managed in a home so Ruger does not get sick from eating things he shouldn't. Ruger will need a watchful and patient person to keep him safe. In return, he's sure to make a wonderful companion.Ruger is part of our Single Pets* program! That means that he is eligible for a free flight home and waived adoption fee!*Single pets do best as the only dog or cat in the home.
